The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has officially issued ISO 9001: 2015
Organization for Standardization (ISO) officially issued ISO 9001: 2015 standard to replace ISO 9001: 2008 standard on 15/09/2015
This is the result of more than three years of work by experts from nearly 95 participating countries and observers to update standards to comply modern needs.
According to the guidelines of the International Accreditation Body Forum (IAF) (See guidance here), organizations which was certified in accordance with ISO 9001: 2008 have 3 years from the date the new standard is issued to converted to ISO 9001: 2015. This means that the certificate under ISO 9001: 2015 can only be issued from September 15, 2015 and all certificates under ISO 9001: 2008 will expire after September 14, 2018.
With more than 1.1 million globally issued certificates, ISO 9001 helps organizations prove to their customers that they can provide products and services with consistent quality. It also works as a tool to arrange their processes and make them more efficient. Acting ISO Secretary General Kevin McKinley explained: "ISO 9001 allows organizations to adapt to a changing world. It enhances an organization's ability to satisfy its customers and provides a unified platform for sustainable development and success”.
The 2015 version has important changes, which Nigel Croft, ISO Sub-Committee Chairman builted, developed and revised the standards, referring to as an "evolution rather than a revolution" process. "We have only applied ISO 9001 into the 21st century. Previous versions of ISO 9001 were quite normative, with many requirements for documentation procedures and records. In versions of 2000 and 2008, we mainly focus on the management process, and pay less attention on the documentation.
"Now, we have gone a big step, and ISO 9001: 2015 is even less rules than its predecessor, and concentrates on performance results. We have achieved this by combining process approach with risk-based thinking, and use Plan-Do-Check-Act cycles at all levels of the organization. "
" Today, organizations will implement a number of management standards at the same time, we designed the version 2015 to easily integrate with other management systems. The new version also provides a base for quality standards of automation, aerospace, healthcare, etc., and consider the needs of managers. "
As the standard is expected when it is applied, Kevin McKinley concludes: "The world has changed, and this version is necessary to reflect this. Technology is driving rising customer expectations and Enterprises. The Trade barriers have decreased because of lower taxes and additional strategic tools such as International Standards. We see a trend towards more complex global supply chains, which requires integrated action. So, organizations shall follow new ways, and our quality management standards need to keep up with these expectations. I believe that ISO 9001 version 2015 can help them achieve this. "
This standard was developed by ISO / TC 176 / SC 2 and has a secretariat organized by BSI that is ISO member for the UK. "This is a very important committee for ISO," said Kevin, "It has led the way for global comformity, impact and use. I thanks for the experts because of their efforts."
ISO 9001: 2015 replaces previous versions and certification bodies will have three years to upgrade their certificates to the new version.
ISO 9000: 2015 lists concepts and languages used throughout the ISO 9000 series, which have also been revised and released.
